Submerge into Virtual Reality

There are plenty of fish in the sea, but few as hungry as Munch! The classic eat-and-grow genre reimagined in Virtual Reality.

Survival of the swiftest

Eat smaller fish to grow in size, but make sure not to get eaten by other, bigger creatures. Defeat all the 20 waves of delicious prey and dangerous foes through five unique environments and devour your way to the top of the food chain!

Any fin is possible

Few things can beat the sensational presence of room-scale VR. Munch is an exceptional experience at the bottom of the ocean where every motion and action feels natural and intuitive, without causing motion sickness. Immerse yourself in the world of Munch!

VR is for everyone

Munch is a game that virtually anyone can enjoy. It’s as easy to learn as it is challenging to master, and will always keep you on your toes as you wrestle through the waves. Challenge your friends to a watery showdown and see who ranks highest on the leaderboards!

Munch started out as a game jam project we made for fun when we were in between projects at the office. We played around with Virtual Reality using a borrowed HTC Vive and got inspired by some of the cool games in The Lab. We fell for the idea of combining the VR mechanics of Xortex, The Lab’s interpretation of a VR Space Invader game with the design and gameplay of the classic eat-and-grow games such as Feeding Frenzy. We made a prototype in just four days and had pretty fun with it.

The following week, we went to GamesCom in Cologne, Germany together with Sweden Game Arena. We noticed that one of the VR booths they had set up wasn’t used all the time, so we installed our little fish game on that computer. The result was staggering. People lined up to play the game, everyone from kids and nerds to investors and publishers wanted to munch away at the bottom of the ocean. By the time we got back to our office in Sweden, we had realized that we simply had to move forward with this project no matter what.

A few months later, on February 17, we released the full feature game on Steam for the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. It was almost immediately picked up by HTC Viveport and featured as a recommended game in “Steam Games We Love” section.
